Canada Passport Photo — 50×70 mm Guide & Checker

Canada is the strictest of the major passport systems about provenance: the 50×70 mm photo must come from a commercial photographer, be professionally printed, and be completely unaltered — the official guidance lists software cut-outs and AI tools by name as alterations that get applications rejected.

What a checker can honestly do is teach you the target: frame a draft photo at 50×70 mm with the face band at 31–36 mm, check the background contrast rule, and arrive at the studio knowing exactly what to ask for — including the photographer's details that must be written on the back of one photo.

A commercial photographer is mandatory — this page is a checker

Canada requires passport photos to be taken by a commercial photographer and professionally printed, and altered photos are rejected — the government explicitly counts cutting a person out and pasting them onto a white background, and any AI or editing-tool output, as alteration. No website can legitimately "make" you a Canadian passport photo. Use this page to learn the exact size and check your framing, then visit the photographer.

⚠️ Canada requires passport photos to be taken by a commercial photographer and professionally printed; photos altered in any way — including cutting a person out and pasting them onto a white background, or any AI/editing tool — are rejected. This page only helps you check size and framing before you visit the photographer.

Do not confuse passport with visa/PR photos

Canada's visitor, study and work visa photos use a different, smaller frame (35×45 mm) and different rules, and permanent-residence photos have their own specification again. The 50×70 mm size on this page is for the Canadian passport only. Tools that sell a "Canada passport photo maker" with background removal are describing a product Canada rejects.
